Fatcat Blueprint – Part 4
The biggest challenge new marketers have is getting quality traffic without spending a ton of money. It really all boils down to one thing: Give the search engines (especially Google) what they want, and you’ll get good rankings (and therefore good traffic).
Of course, easier said than done, but it’s not as hard as it may sound. When you’re building your website, you want it to have between about 6 and 10 pages. The Home page will feature your main keyword phrase, while the other pages will have related keywords in the same niche.
Here’s an example — suppose your main keyword phrase is “cheap wedding dresses,” instead of using minor variations like:
* cheap wedding dress
* cheap wedding dresses usa
* cheap wedding dresses size
and so forth, you should find keywords that are more varied — like, for instance:
* cheap designer wedding dresses
* buy cheap wedding gowns
* informal low cost wedding dress
and so on — these are just examples, you would want to do proper keyword research to find phrases that are actually getting searches.
The idea is that these phrases cover wider ground than the first batch of phrases. You can use the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to check how much competition there is for each keyword phrase.
Here’s something you may not know: You actually want your keyword phrase to have MORE competition, not less. Why is this? Well, it goes back to what I said earlier about not re-inventing the wheel. If a keyword has NO competition, that likely means
that’s because there’s not much money to be made there, while niches that have competition are proven money-makers.
And there’s always room for one more in those niches, especially when you use all the other strategies I outline in the full version of The FatCat Blueprint.
